Jonny Greenwood Wins Consolation Oscar - Berlin Film Fest's Music Outstanding Artistic Prize

He may have been deemed ineligible for an Oscar nomination and he may have been snubbed by his own (Brit-run) BAFTA awards. But Jonny Greenwood has finally won something for his eerie and majestic score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.”

Awards for the Berlin Film Festival were handed out this weekend and ‘Blood’ won two awards, Best Director for PTA and the award for a “Outstanding Artistic Contribution” went to the Radiohead guitarist.

That’s weird sounding award like one of those awards they make up on the spot to honor someone who didn’t win a regular category and almost like the meaningless Montgomery Burns award for outstanding achievement in the field of excellence.

Oh well, it’s something, right? The jury was overseen Greek-born director Constantin Costa-Gavras, (“Z” and “Missing”) and the Top honor went to “Elite Squad,” a Brazilian film by Jose Padilha that takes a deep looks at the shady workings of Rio’s Special Operations Police Battalion. The runner-up prize went to Oscar-winning U.S. director Errol Morris’ upcoming Abu Ghraib prison scandal documentary, “Standard Operating Procedure.”

Suffice to say Madonna’s directorial debut, “Filth & Wisdom” didn’t win thing.
