Zack Snyder’s fantasy sci-fi epic “Rebel Moon,” once a “Star Wars” pitch reconfigured to be an original project, wasn’t exactly well-received upon its release last December (read our review). Trounced by critics, the film has a dismal 21% Rotten Tomatoes score, and even the generally more lenient audience score is negative. Still, the show must go on as the sequel, ‘The Scargiver,’ is already in the can and ready for imminent release.

So, what’s in store for the second installment of “Rebel Moon”? Snyder gave a really good summary to Entertainment Weekly last year, which is basically, following the events of part one, Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her surviving ragtag group of warriors have to defend the moon planet Veldt, their new home, alongside its people against the Realm.
“Part Two is a war movie,” Snyder told EW in December. “We know that [Ed Skrein’s evil] Noble’s alive and Belisarius has given him the task of finding his daughter and bringing her back to him at all costs. So, the stakes have risen for the village from ‘hey, we want some of your grain’ to now ‘you’re harboring the most wanted fugitive in the history of the galaxy.’”
“Rebel Moon— Part Two’ stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of ‘Jimmy.’ The film also features Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi, and Ray Fisher
Here’s the official synopsis:
Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.
As we all should know by now, two more versions of “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” and “Rebel Moon— Part Two: The Scargiver” are on the way. While ‘The Scargiver’ premieres April 19, 2024, Snyder recently said the R-rated versions of both films should arrive sometime in August, and both films will be around 6 hours long. Presumably, those are for the die-hards only, but we’ll see; maybe ‘The Scargiver’ release in April can turn the narrative on the two films around. In the meantime, watch the new trailer below.
