Dave Filoni & Jon Favreau Also Creating 'Rangers of The New Republic' 'Star Wars' Series For Disney+

Lucasfilm‘s Kathleen Kennedy dropped major bombs tonight, though one of them was not a “Boba Fett” series as rumored. Instead, Kennedy dropped two bombshells: Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the creators of “The Mandalorian,” are developing two new spin-off shows from the series.

One, you kinda expected: Rosario Dawson starring as ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano in the series “Ahsoka,” she’s too big of a fan favorite to not to an entire series around.

The second one is more unexpected. The series is called “Rangers of The New Republic,” set within the same timeline of “The Mandalorian,” but that’s all known at the time. Since there was no mention of a rumored “Boba Fett” show (sorry, Deadline), it could mean that Sophie Thatcher, recently reported to be joining the “Star Wars” universe, could be for this “Rangers of The Republic” show. Then again, it could also be for “The Mandalorian” season three.

But, ‘Mandalorian’ character Cara Dune, played by the controversial Gina Carano, also recently became a ranger on the series in season two. So it’s very possible, the rumored show built around Cara Dune and Bo Katan (Katee Sackhoff); who knows. But Sackhoff herself recently said she had no clue about any rumored series or show– the first she’d heard of it. So, who knows?

Either way, Filoni and Favreau, who are rumored to be getting official spots at the head of what could be called LucasfilmTV– though none of it is official–are still looking like the top dogs at Lucasfilm right now. It’ll be interesting to see if/when they get bigger titles.

There is no time frame for “Rangers of The New Republic,” and they could be 2023 shows given that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Andor,” coming in 2022, are likely coming first.
