Hannah Montana 3-D Concert Movie Tops Box Office

Even in a semi-limited release Disney’s “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” in digital 3D owned the Box-Office weekend with an impressive $29 million at 683 locations in what is typically a slow Super Bowl Sunday box-office weekend.

A typical number 1 grossing film generally opens up in 3,000 screens with an average approximately around $7,000 per theater. ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ grossed a remarkable average of nearly $42,500 per theater as the tweens flocked in droves – pundits suggesting often because they couldn’t attend the real deal.

The film was supposed to only have a limited lifespan ending this Thursday, but its success has made the producers give it an open-ended run.

“The Eye,” starring Jessica Alba, took the No. 2 slot a $13 million weekend, no. 3 movie was “27 Dresses” with $8.4 million, and rounding out the top five were “Juno” (no. 4 with $7.5 million; total ticket sales to $110 millio and “Meet the Spartans,” with $7.1 million – almost a 62% drop from last week’s winning weekend.
