Judd Apatow Ingratiates Himself To The Oscar Committee With Groveling "Walk Hard' Campaign

Call it downright shameless! Look at Judd Apatow and company kowtowing to the Academy Awards octogenarians.

It’s funny, Apatow and director Jake Kasdan have for months before this film was ready began self-deprecatingly talking about the Oscars, subtly and sarcastically hinting that their work would gain them Academy Award exposure (hey, all those original songs by Michael Andrews and co.? You never know…) and finally all their sardonic talk comes to fruition in this facetious poster.

“We just wrote our own fictional biopic and shot it like a movie that felt like it deserved an Oscar.” Apatow told USA Today in September. “Our movie is the dumbest movie to ever beg for an Oscar.”

Way to take it all the way boys.

“Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” hits theaters on December 21st 2007. The soundtrack – which features songs sung by John C. Reily, composed by a ton of people with Mike Andrews, plus a David Bowie cover of “Starman” – comes out December 4. The Box of Cox will basically come out on ITunes (fifteen additional tracks, making the total number of ‘Walk Hard’ songs released 29).
