Speaking of Danny Boyle’s “Sunshine” … we just got our hands on a bootleg of the soundtrack. You’ll recall the John Murphy (he also did Boyle’s “28 Days Later“) score was never properly released, likely because the film never did very well in theaters unfortunately (it was sadly overlooked).
We loved the tense, paranoiac Kubrickian sci-fi mindbender; it was a viscerally poignant cinematic experience. We haven’t seen it since it screened in July of 2007, but that supernova of filmmaking blew us away and it still resonates. Murphy’s Brian Eno-esque score was ambient and sublime, but also when appropriate, thunderous, anxiety-ridden and chilling. We’ve uploaded a few tracks for you here.
Apropos of nothing besides Boyle’s work (who we obviously love). Did anyone see or spend much time with his seemingly feel-good 2004 drama about two motherless boys that find stolen money, “Millions”? We unabashedly love that film and highly recommend it. It’s essentially a family film with a genuine and pure heart (OK, that final, final scene is rather cheese, but the rest is impeccably handled).
