Is Kristin Scott Thomas A Lock For Best Actress For 'I've Love You So Long'?

Everyone is raving about French film, “I’ve Love You So Long,” (“Il y a longtemps que je t’aime”), and if you’re to believe the hype, Kristin Scott Thomas is already a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination (something we wouldn’t discount, it’s not been the greatest year for female roles so far; or at least there haven’t been many “locks” thus far). We’ve had people glowing at us about this film for months and we finally see it next week and are pumped! (or at least as “pumped” as one can be about seeing a French drama about women repairing relationships, heh). Hollywood Elsewhere, a big champion of the film, says the picture is “remarkable,” “deeply penetrating,” and says Thomas’ performance is “immensely sad but highly sensitive and [one] that you just know, minutes into it, will be with you the rest of your life.” Damn, that’s some deep praise.

Kristin Scott Thomas offers a truly sensational performance in this utterly engrossing and deeply moving tale of two sisters who rebuild their relationship after fifteen years apart. The two women gradually rediscover common ground and how to relate to one another through the memories of their shared childhood, all the while with the spectre of their time apart looming overhead. This intelligent and compassionate film is a testament to the power of female love and forgiveness.
