“Rose of Nevada”
Mark Jenkin, the Cornish filmmaker behind “Bait” and “Enys Men,” premieres his latest in NYFF’s Revivals section. Known for his handmade 16mm aesthetic and uncanny sound design, Jenkin sets his story amid maritime ritual and ghostly time-slips. With George MacKay, Callum Turner, Rosalind Eleazar, Edward Rowe, Francis Magee, and Mary Woodvine, the film promises a tactile, haunting meditation on community and memory.

“Gavagai”
Ulrich Köhler, known for his disciplined minimalism in films like “In My Room,” brings a new edge with this world-premiere metacinematic drama. Set in Senegal, it traces a radical remake of “Medea,” with Jean-Christophe Folly and Maren Eggert as the leads whose off-screen tensions mirror ancient tragedy. A director character, played by Nathalie Richard, oversees the shoot, but the story pushes further when Folly later confronts a racist security guard at the Berlin premiere. With Köhler’s cool composure and moral rigor, “Gavagai” promises a precise collision of myth, dislocation, and personal truth.
“Sentimental Value”
Joachim Trier, reuniting with co-writer Eskil Vogt, turns to a family saga that blurs the personal and the cinematic. The story follows a father and his daughters confronting their strained relationships and a Hollywood version of his life story. Starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Elle Fanning, Cory Michael Smith, Anders Danielsen Lie, and Lena Endre, the North American premiere promises a layered, bittersweet examination of family, legacy, and narrative ownership, continuing Trier’s reputation as one of cinema’s most empathetic chroniclers.
