'Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse (Part One)': Watch The First Look Teaser

“Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse” is easily not only one of the best superhero films ever made, but it’s also probably the best animated superhero film ever made, period (it’s the rare film that deserved the Best Animated Film Oscar and won it over other all contenders). Produced, godfathered, and co-written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who seem to have a fantastic Midas touch with projects such as this (see the similarly excellent, “Mitchells Vs. The Machines” which they similarly overseen), many have wondered when we’ll see a sequel. Well, Lord and Miller have been teasing something on social media in the last few days, and tonight, Sony Animation revealed the title of the sequel, plus first look images of the movie.

Titled “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)” (which obviously hints at a two-part film, something that Chris Miller himself confirmed; see below), the animated movie is coming exclusively to movie theaters on October 7, 2022.

Here’s the official synopsis of the new film:

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

A new team directs this version: Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers (best known for co-writing Pixar’s “Soul”), and Justin K. Thompson. The screenplay this time comes via Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and newcomer to the team David Callaham (writer of “Shang Chi” and 2014’s “Godzilla” among many others).

The film’s cast so far is Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, as teased in the post-credit of the original. As the synopsis suggests, more Spider-People will be joining the team, and if you know Spider-Man comics, that could literally be almost up to a dozen Spider-characters, so they’ll still be some surprises in store on the big screen.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)” arrives in theaters on October 7, 2022. Take your first look at the images below.
