‘Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip’ Trailer: Joe Finally Takes Center Stage

The character Joe has been the ‘Madea’ universe’s loose-cannon uncle for a dozen movies, popping in to say the wild thing everyone else only thinks. But now he finally takes center stage in “Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip.”

Netflix debuted the trailer and key art for the film ahead of its February 13 release today, positioning Joe as the no-rules, no-filter chaperone from hell when he hauls his sheltered grandson B.J. across the country on a cross-country college tour. The plan, naturally, doesn’t survive first contact with Joe’s instincts. Wrong turns stack up. Patience evaporates. And every “lesson” arrives wrapped in chaos, blunt truth, and the kind of classic Joe antics that had been stealing scenes for years.

The movie also extends Tyler Perry’s ongoing partnership with the streamer, which includes writing, directing, and producing films, series, and faith-based features. Netflix touted the recent run of Perry titles on its charts, noting that “Madea’s Destination Wedding” spent four weeks on the Global Top 10 Movies (English) list, while “Straw”—starring Taraji P. Henson—logged five weeks, reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and hit #1 in 62.

As for the new one, the setup is simple: Joe and B.J. in a car, two clashing worldviews, and a trip that turns into a rolling stress test—part comedy of errors, part hard-headed bonding exercise. The official synopsis frames it as Joe trying to teach B.J. about the real world, even as tensions rise and the detours get louder, messier, and more personal.

Perry directs and stars alongside Jermaine Harris and Amber Reign Smith. “Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip” debuts February 13 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
