There’s a clean line from Wes Anderson’s India-set “The Darjeeling Limited” back to legendary Indian auteur Satyajit Ray—Anderson has cited Ray as a major influence on that film, and he’s now the on-camera guide for the return of “Days And Nights In The Forest.”

Janus Films has released a new teaser intro for the newly restored film, encouraging cinephiles to watch it and, once again, underlining Ray’s impact on the filmmaker.
The newly 4k-restored 1970 drama, adapted from Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel, follows four Calcutta friends who flee the city for a forest guesthouse, only to find the weekend turning into a pressure test of ego, class, and desire. The run opens in New York on Friday, February 27, at Film Forum, with Los Angeles following on Friday, March 6, at Laemmle Royal.
The restoration was completed in 2025 through The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project and Film Heritage Foundation with Janus Films and the Criterion Collection, using original elements preserved by Purnima Dutta and audio materials preserved at the BFI National Archive. Anderson’s praise stays blunt: “From the master, another masterpiece,” he said. Watch the new introduction and trailer below.
