‘Spa Weekend’ Trailer: Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau & Anna Faris Cut Loose In New Ensemble Comedy

The “Bad Moms” and “Hangover” filmmakers return with another R-rated ensemble comedy about friendship, burnout, and increasingly reckless self-care.

The mid-budget studio comedy has been on life support for years. However, filmmakers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore have spent the better part of the last decade proving there’s still an audience for broad, chaotic, adult-oriented crowd-pleasers. After turning “The Hangover” into a phenomenon as writers and later launching the hugely successful “Bad Moms” franchise, the duo is back with another female-led comedy built around burnout, bad decisions, and one increasingly disastrous getaway.

Black Bear has released the first trailer for “Spa Weekend,” a new ensemble comedy starring Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau, and Anna Faris. And yes, the setup is exactly the kind of high-concept vacation meltdown that practically begs for escalating debauchery, emotional oversharing, and at least one public humiliation sequence involving luxury wellness culture.

According to the official synopsis, the film follows four lifelong friends who realize that “somewhere between careers, relationships, families and everyday responsibilities,” they’ve lost sight of themselves and each other. Their attempt at self-care comes in the form of a luxury spa retreat. Still, the relaxing girls’ weekend quickly spirals into chaos, outrageous behavior, and “a lot of really bad decisions.”

Lucas and Moore wrote and directed the film, continuing a collaboration that spans “The Hangover,” “21 & Over,” “Office Christmas Party,” “Jexi,” and the “Bad Moms” films. The cast also feels carefully assembled from different corners of studio and ensemble comedy: Mann brings her long-running association with the Judd Apatow comedy universe, Fisher remains one of the great underused comic actors of her generation since “Wedding Crashers,” Faris returns to a broad ensemble comedy space that helped define much of her early career, and Buteau continues building on the breakout success of “Survival Of The Thickest.”
