A romantic getaway, a remote cabin, and two people arriving with murder on their minds is already a good hook. Add Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis, and Jorma Taccone’s “Over Your Dead Body” starts to look like one of those gleefully nasty genre exercises built on how long it can keep twisting the knife before someone bleeds out. And now, the first trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s spring release.
Directed by Taccone—best known as one-third of The Lonely Island and the filmmaker behind “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”—the movie follows Dan and Lisa, a miserable couple who head to a remote cabin for what’s supposed to be a romantic reset. The catch, of course, is that each has secretly come there planning to kill the other. Their carefully arranged traps and counter-traps start collapsing once a dangerous outside crew crashes the weekend with plans of their own.

That setup is clean and vicious in exactly the right way—part marital warfare, part home-invasion bloodbath, part deadpan action farce. Taccone has always understood how to push absurdity just far enough without losing the shape of the joke, and this premise gives him a lot to work with: lovers as assassins, resentment as slapstick, and a cabin-in-the-woods setup that looks primed to be shredded by bullets, betrayal, and bad decisions. The film, which premiered at the recent SXSW Film Festival (read our review), is also Taccone’s first feature since “Popstar” in 2016, which alone makes this a fun left turn back into movies.
The screenplay is by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, with the project produced by Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Guy Danella, and Lee Kim. It comes from 87North, XYZ Films, and Resolute Films, which tells you plenty about the lane here: action mechanics, genre energy, and a taste for chaos that’s likely to be both polished and a little unhinged.
There’s also a bit of built-in lineage to the project. “Over Your Dead Body” is a remake of the 2021 Norwegian film “The Trip,” with Tommy Wirkola remaining involved as an executive producer. That doesn’t mean the new version will play the same way, but it does suggest the movie is drawing from a premise sturdy enough to survive translation—and maybe get a little glossier and meaner in the process.
“Over Your Dead Body” premiered at SXSW in March and is set for a theatrical release on April 24, 2026. In the meantime, the trailer does its job well: it sells the marriage as toxic and the tone as a blend of blood-splattered mayhem and relationship comedy. Watch the trailer below.
