Inspired by a harrowing true story, “Rosemead” follows an ailing woman who takes increasingly desperate measures to protect her troubled teenage son, played by Lawrence Shou. As his behavior darkens and the pressures within their Chinese American community mount, the line between love and survival begins to blur.
Written by Marilyn Fu and produced by Mynette Louie, Andrew D. Corkin, and Liu, the film also stars Orion Lee, Jennifer Lim, Madison Hu, and James Chen. The executive producer team includes Theo James, Julia Xu, San Demetrio Arte, Chris Argentieri, Frank Shyong, Jamie Lin, Peng Zhao, Chiling Lin, Je Yang, Daniela Ruiz, and Julia Gouw.
Liu’s performance has already earned major recognition across the festival circuit, including the Artistic Achievement Award at Philadelphia, the Precious Gem Award at Miami, the Réalta Award at Belfast, and the John Cassavetes Award at Denver. She is also set to receive the CCA AAPI Trailblazer Award, timed to the film’s release.
“Rosemead” arrives in theaters this December following its acclaimed festival run, with the official trailer now offering a first look at Lucy Liu’s most daring role to date.
