The Western has been creeping back into indie genre filmmaking in recent years, often as a leaner, harsher alternative to studio action spectacle. “Old Henry” found a compact, character-driven way into that space, and now producers from that film are backing another frontier survival story with “The Isolate Thief,” a Civil War-era thriller opening in theaters this summer from Radial Entertainment.

The film stars Mackenzie Foy (“Interstellar”) as a young woman left alone to serve as caretaker of a remote Union Army outpost during one bitter winter. When stolen gold unexpectedly falls into her possession, her isolation turns dangerous fast. A gang of outlaws arrives looking for the stash, forcing her to defend her home and outthink the men trying to take it from her.
“The Isolate Thief” co-stars Odeya Rush (“Corporate Retreat”), Jack Kesy (“The Killer”), Ty Simpkins (“The Whale”), Martin Sensmeier (“Frybread Face and Me”), Joe Pantoliano (“Bad Boys for Life”), and Sean Bean (“The Lord of the Rings” franchise). John Suits (“3022”) directs from a screenplay by Kevin Lefler.
The setup gives the film a contained siege-movie shape: a remote outpost, a deadly winter, a stash of gold, and a young woman forced to turn limited resources into a survival strategy. That is familiar Western territory, but the Civil War backdrop and lone caretaker premise give “The Isolate Thief” a more stripped-down angle than the usual outlaw-chase story.
“The Isolate Thief” opens in theaters on July 10. Watch the trailer below.
