Frank Castle is headed back to Disney+ this spring as a Special Marvel Presentation, aka a one-off TV film. Marvel has officially set “The Punisher: One Last Kill” for May 12, with Jon Bernthal reprising Frank Castle after his return in “Daredevil: Born Again.”

And so far, Marvel has kept the official details pretty lean. The studio has confirmed the title, poster, platform, and release date, while the current show page lists Bernthal as the only announced cast member and offers no fuller synopsis beyond Frank Castle’s return. And the trailer doesn’t reveal that much more other than what seems like a struggle with PTSD, grappling with the past and fighting the demons that continue to haunt Frank.
That said, what gives the special extra weight is the creative team. Bernthal co-wrote the project with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directs, and the pairing already has history, having worked together on “King Richard” and “We Own This City.”
That setup makes sense for this character. Frank Castle has never needed an overbuilt mythology machine around him, and the Special Presentation format suggests something tighter, meaner, and more direct than the usual franchise sprawl. Marvel has not said much more than that yet, but Bernthal’s deeper involvement behind the scenes at least points toward a version of the character that stays closer to the brutal, stripped-down edge that made him land in the first place. That last sentence is an inference based on Marvel’s official rollout and Bernthal’s reported creative role.
