Bleecker Street has released the trailer for “Slanted,” a sharp-edged, sci-fi/body-horror coming-of-age satire written and directed by Amy Wang. The film took home the Narrative Grand Jury Prize at SXSW 2025, and it’s headed to theaters on March 13, 2026.

Wang’s premise is blunt in the way the best satire is—taking a social pressure everyone recognizes and pushing it to its most grotesque, literal endpoint. Joan Huang idolizes the popular girls at her high school and dreams of being prom queen, but she’s convinced the only way to win is to look like the past queens whose portraits line the halls. Enter Ethnos, a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic that makes people of color appear white. Joan undergoes the procedure and wakes up as a beautiful blonde seemingly “destined” for the crown—but the film’s question is embedded in the transformation itself: what, exactly, is she trading away to get there?
“Slanted” stars Shirley Chen (who recently appeared in “Dìdi”) alongside Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (“Never Have I Ever”) and McKenna Grace (“Regretting You”). The cast also includes Vivian Wu, Amelie Zilber, Fang Du, Elaine Hendrix, and R. Keith Harris. Producers include Trevor Wall, Adel “Future” Nur, Cameron Boling, Wang, and Mark Ankner.
“Slanted” hits theaters March 13, 2026, carrying its SXSW heat into a wide-audience test: satire as entertainment, and body horror as the bluntest possible metaphor for assimilation. Watch the first trailer below.
