James Marsden has been a familiar face for decades. Still, between his atypical turn as a charming douchebag millionaire in Apple TV’s “Your Friends & Neighbors,” his Emmy-nominated role in Hulu’s “Paradise,” his long-awaited return as Cyclops in “Avengers: Doomsday,” and his straight-man anchoring of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise, the 52-year-old actor is having a real moment.

Apple is leaning into that run. Marsden will star in and executive-produce “Disavowed,” a new action thriller created by “Iron Man” and “Uncharted” writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The ongoing series, based on Marcum and Holloway’s original idea, is produced by Apple Studios.
The ongoing series, which hails from Apple Studios, is based on an original idea by Marcum and Holloway, the longtime writing duo behind “Iron Man” and “Uncharted.” Marsden will play Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer who is abruptly fired while hunting an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Disgraced and pushed out of the intelligence world, Brad decides to chase the $15 million federal bounty on the assassin’s head himself.
Marcum and Holloway will executive produce alongside Tom Spezialy and Marsden. Blue Marble Pictures produces, with Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity also serving as executive producers. Blue Marble is also behind Apple’s “Pachinko.”
Marsden has remained especially busy on television in recent years. He received an Emmy nomination for “Paradise,” earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for “Jury Duty,” and starred in HBO’s “Westworld.” On the film side, his credits include “The Notebook,” “Enchanted,” “27 Dresses,” “The Butler,” and the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise. He can currently be seen in Hulu’s “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice” and will reprise his role as Cyclops in “Avengers: Doomsday.”
For Apple, “Disavowed” adds another star-driven thriller to a growing slate that already leans heavily on recognizable names and prestige-minded genre packaging. No premiere date or additional casting has been announced yet.
