Now this is downright bizarre.
Steve Coogan and Rosario Dawson have joined the cast of “Percy Jackson” and will play the husband and wife team of Hades and Persephone. If you remember your greek mythology, the two are not on good terms (she’s held captive and forced into marriage) and Dawson’s Persephone will reportedly carry on a flirtation with Glover, a teenage character played Coogan’s “Tropic Thunder” costar, Brandon T. Jackson.
Wait, what the hell is this? ‘Jackson,’ which is being helmed by Chris Columbus, is a modern day retelling of a story about the Greek Gods and follows young Percy (Logan Lerman), the half son of Poseidon, who must stop a war between the Gods. Playing the fellow gods will be Pierce Brosnan (Chiron), Uma Thurman (Medusa), Sean Bean (Zeus), Kevin McKidd (Poseidon), and Melina Kanakaredes (Athena).
This is a comedy, right? Hmm, most reports are calling it an “adventure/fantasy,” but they are based on kids books and with Columbus at the helm, presumably they’ll be some PG-13-lite laughs, unintentional or otherwise. Filming is currently taking place in Vancouver with a February 12, 2010 release date in mind. [EW]
