'Army Of Thieves' Trailer: Matthias Schweighöfer, The Breakout Star Of Zack Snyder's Zombie Movie Get His Own Prequel Spin-Off

What led one safecracker into a city besieged by zombies? It’s an intriguing question that follows a character in  Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead.” Along with the director, Netflix gives viewers more clues with a new film centered around Dieter. “Army of Thieves” offers glimpses into how the small-time criminal found his place on a very challenging global stage. Along the way, the project touches on aspects that would come into play during that faithful final stand.

Snyder receives a story credit on the project, while the script itself comes from Shay Hatten. The screenwriter co-wrote ‘Dead’ and is working on the other announced prequel “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.” Outside of the franchise, Hatten is co-writer on the upcoming “John Wick 4.” Snyder stays on as producer for ‘Thieves” but doesn’t take on directorial duties. This time, he’s found a surprising choice to helm the spinoff — Matthias Schweighöfer. While he might be known as the European safecracker Dieter, the actor is far from inexperienced behind the camera. Schweighöfer most notably directed all episodes of “You Are Wanted.” The series gave him the chance to appear as the title character while also honing his directorial skills; something aptly put to use in the upcoming film. Schweighöfer is joined by a cast that includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, Jonathan Cohen, and Noémie Nakai.
