'Anne Boleyn' Trailer: Jodie Turner-Smith Stars As The Queen In New AMC+ Drama Series

Who determines your story? For Anne Boleyn, it’s been everyone but herself. The legendary historical figure is finally getting the chance to be front and center in the AMC+ series “Anne Boleyn.” Jodie Turner-Smith stars as the woman whose life has been reduced to the gory details of her final days. The actress has come to the forefront in recent years thanks to outstanding performances — such as Queen in 2019’s “Queen & Slim.”

Turner-Smith leads a cast that features established TV and theater talents. Mark Stanley from “Game of Thrones” and “Criminal: UK” stars as Henry VIII. The monarch built a reputation of ill-fated wives and is arguably more known for his personal failings than his role in England’s historic reformation. ‘Boleyn’ peers into her family life as it casts Paapa Essiedu in the role of Anne’s brother George. The series also features Lola Petticrew, Barry Ward, Jamael Westman, Amanda Burton, and Thalissa Teixeira.

The project hails from Eve Hedderwick Turner, better known for her appearances in “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and “Casualty.” Outside of acting work, she’s also written several short films. Director Lynsey Miller comes to the project having helmed 2020’s “Deadwater Fell.”

The series’ official synopsis:

“Chronicling Anne Boleyn’s infamous downfall and execution, the series reimagines the final months of the eponymous Queen’s life as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her. “Anne Boleyn” depicts the key moments that cause Anne to topple, unpacking her immense strength, her fatal vulnerabilities, and her determination to be an equal among men.”

History depends on who tells the story in “Anne Boleyn.” The new AMC+ original series is making its debut on December 9. Viewers can expect the series’ two additional episodes to be released on subsequent Thursdays. Get your first look at the trailer below.
