'This Is Going To Hurt' Trailer: Ben Whishaw Leads A New Medical Drademy For AMC+

What is it really like to be a doctor? The new series “This Is Going to Hurt” explores the trials, tribulations, and glimpses of hope in practitioners’ lives that most patients will never see. Set in a London hospital, ‘Hurt’ is based on Adam Kay’s memoir of the same name. Kay — who became a doctor himself — opens readers’ eyes to the hidden aspects of the system. He resigned from that world before going on to publish the revealing book. For the series, Kay assumes writing as well as executive producer duties.

Ben Whishaw stars as the beleaguered Adam; the actor was most recently seen reprising his role of Q in “No Time to Die.” Overlapping comedic and dramatic moments give him room to create a definitive character. Co-star Ambika Mod may be a newcomer but she’s more than capable of matching Whishaw’s standout performance. Michele Austin, Alex Jennings, Kadiff Kirwan, Ashley McGuire, Dame Harriet Walter, Rory Fleck Byrne, and Tom Durant-Pritchard round out the cast.

The series’ official synopsis:

The series follows Adam (Whishaw), a doctor who is finding his way through the ranks of the hospital hierarchy; junior enough to suffer the crippling hours, but senior enough to face a constant barrage of terrifying responsibilities. Adam is clinging to his personal life as he is increasingly overwhelmed by stresses at work: the 97-hour weeks, the life-and-death decisions, and all the while knowing the hospital parking meter is earning more than him.

A doctor’s path proves to be more than he bargained for in “This Is Going To Hurt.“ The series premieres June 2 on AMC+ with new episodes each week. Get your first look at the trailer below.
