‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ Trailer: Idris Elba’s Famous Detective Leads His Own Netflix Movie

Can John Luther find redemption? The popular series “Luther” ended its run in 2019 with a startling conclusion. Now, Netflix is introducing another chapter in the story with the film “Luther: The Fallen Sun.” It follows the title character as he makes yet another life-changing decision; freeing himself from prison is only the beginning as Luther pursues a familiar killer intent on a reign of terror. “The Fallen Sun” utilizes much of the lore the series built up over a decade ago.

The project relies on familiar talent both behind the scenes and in front of the camera; creator Neil Cross wrote “The Fallen Sun,” with series 5 director Jamie Payne returning to lead this anticipated project. Furthermore, series star Idris Elba reprises his role as detective John Luther. The actor has been conquering genre films with “The Suicide Squad,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” in recent years.

In ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun‘ — an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film — a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.
