How does grief manifest itself? For one man, the answer is a chaotic creation. “The Thing With Feathers” follows a graphic novelist as he grapples with the loss of his wife. The artist’s frustrations grow as he attempts to finish a project stagnated by recent events. His life becomes even more complicated thanks to the appearance of a mysterious crow, challenging his grip on reality.
Writer and director Dylan Southern brings his unique vision to the project. Southern is best known for co-directing the music documentary “Meet Me in the Bathroom” and collaborating with prominent musicians, including Björk. He is also currently at work on a film covering Oasis’ well-received 2025 reunion tour.
‘Feathers’ features an outstanding performance by its star, Benedict Cumberbatch. The accomplished actor lends his character a level of depth that is all the more necessary as pivotal plot points unfold. Cumberbatch is surrounded by a talented cast for Southern’s psychological drama. Co-stars include Jessie Cave and David Thewlis, the latter voicing Dad’s antagonist crow.
The film’s official synopsis:
Left to raise two young sons after the unexpected death of his wife, Dad’s life begins to unravel. Grief is messy and chaotic enough as it is, but when it takes the form of an unhinged and unwanted house guest – Crow – taunting him from the shadows, things start to spiral out of control…but maybe that’s exactly what Dad needs.
Andrea Cornwell, Adam Ackland, and Leah Clarke serve as producers on “The Thing With Feathers.” The film will arrive in theaters on November 28. Get your first look at the new trailer below.
