'Run' Trailer: Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Latest Series Hits HBO This April

HBO’s ‘’Run’’ is another in a long line of woman-who-needs-saving-from-dreadful-life stories. For this series, however, a text-based twist gives her the push to somehow move. Of course, it just happens to be a guy from her past behind the message.

“Run” comes from co-creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Waller-Bridge is everywhere right now, much to do with the success of her series “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve.” The multi-hyphenate has been on the usual Hollywood rocket ride that pushes talent to meteoric rises. With all of the hype, Waller-Bridge risks overexposure, and worse, creating content that doesn’t stand up to critical standards.

Arguably, the most interesting aspects of this new project lie in its co-stars Merritt Weaver and Domhnall Gleeson. Weaver came to many viewer’s attention on the series “Nurse Jackie,” but she’s created an exemplary set of film credits. If anyone could transform a cliche into a believable story it is Weaver. Her co-star Gleeson has also crafted his own list of impressive roles. Most recently, it’s been as the baddie in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Together, they might have the right chemistry to pull this off.

The show’s official synopsis reads: Ruby, a woman living a humdrum existence, gets a text inviting her to fulfill a youthful pact promising true love and self-reinvention by stepping out of her life to take a journey with her oldest flame.

“Run” arrives on HBO on April 12. Watch the first trailer below.
