From the producers of “Stranger Things” and Director/EP of “The End of the F***ing World,” comes “I Am Not OK With This,” another YA, irreverent teen show on Netflix that could capture the zeitgeist. We’re mostly intrigued because of up-and-coming star Sophia Lillis, who’s made a name for herself with terrific performances in the “It” franchise, playing the younger version of Amy Adams in the critically-acclaimed HBO show “Sharp Objects,” and recently appearing in “Gretel & Hansel.” She’s not a star or much of a name yet, but clearly Hollywood is all about her and her potential.
The show is about Angsty Syd (Lillis), who navigates high school awkwardness, family drama and an unrequited crush on her best friend while trying to rein in her budding superpowers. Yep, there’s a genre twist to it too.
The show was created by Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall (“The End of the F***ing World“) and the executive producers are Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry produce for 21 Laps Entertainment (the producers behind “Stranger Things”).
Here’s the official synopsis:
I Am Not Okay With This is an irreverent origin story that follows a teenage girl who’s navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken deep within her. From director/EP of The End of the F***ing World Jonathan Entwistle and the producers of Stranger Things comes a new series based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel.
“I Am Not Okay With This” co-stars Wyatt Oleff (“It” franchise, “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise), Sofia Bryant (“The Good Wife,” “The Code”), Kathleen Rose Perkins (“Episodes,” “You’re The Worst“) and Aidan Wojtak-Hissong (“The Mission,” “Falling Water“) and Richard Ellis among others.
