Got a Tip?

‘Hangover’ Writers Penning Holiday Themed Christmas Party Film For ‘The Switch’ Directors; Also Writing College Comedy ’21 And Over’

Thanks to the massive success of “The Hangover”– the highest grossing R-Rated comedy of all time — the world is an oyster for screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

The duo already have “Flypaper” in production starring Ashley Judd, Patrick Dempsey, Jeffrey Tambor and Mekhi Phifer (Rob Minkoff, director of the Jet Li/Jackie Chan vehicle “The Forbidden Kingdom,” is helming) and 24 Frames and Variety are reporting two more writing projects for the duo.

The LATimes says the pair is writing an untitled comedy centered around a holiday work party that will be directed by “Blades of Glory” filmmakers Will Speck and Josh Gordon. Speck and Gordon also have “The Switch” starring Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston in theaters this weekend. There are few details other than it’s a holiday office party that goes horribly awry which is familiar territory for the writers who also penned the holiday-themed film, “Four Christmases” with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon.

Meanwhile, Variety says Relativity Media has also bought Lucas and Moore’s college comedy spec script, “21 & Over” which focuses on two college seniors who, “get their best friend drunk on his 21st birthday and then must race to get him to his medical school exam the next morning.”

Sounds like “The Hangover” for frat kids. Hey, when you have a winning formula, why mess with it, right? The studio surely doesn’t mind, and let’s just hope for audiences sake that it’s not creatively bankrupt. And in case you missed it, Moore and Lucas also wrote Universals’ body-switching comedy “The Change-Up,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman which recent reports indicate could shoot next year before Reynolds does a possible “Green Lantern” sequel.
