Got a Tip?

Wes Bentley, Julian Sands, Jessica Szohr & Laura Ramsey Join Post-Apocalyptic Drama ‘Hirokin’

Wes Bentley, Angus Macfadyen, Julian Sands, Jessica Szohr and Laura Ramsey have all been cast to join the indie post-apocalyptic drama “Hirokin.”

It’s an odd, motley crew, but it’s an indie picture and none of these actors are presumably that expensive. After years of heroin and alcohol abuse, Bentley seems to be hungry to get his young, leading man status back on track after his breakout turn in “American Beauty” in 1999 (he was poised after that, but succumbed to the perils of Hollywood-driven addiction).

Many of these actors have been doing their work in television. While known for many films roles including the notoriously awful, “Boxing Helena,” Sands had been logging time on “24,” Jessica Szohr appears on “Gossip Girl” and Laura Ramsey appeared on “Mad Men” in 2008, but is perhaps best known for her role in the indie horror, “The Ruins.” She also will appear alongside Luke Wilson and Giovanni Ribisi in this summer’s indie online porn industry picture, “Middle Men” (August 6). Angus Macfadyen is perhaps best known for a role in “Braveheart.”

The film is being helmed by Canadian/German director/producer Alejo Mo-Sun (“Deep Rescue”) and he also penned the script. It centers on a reluctant hero (Bentley) who is “marked by a dark past and who must fulfill his destiny when forced to choose between avenging the murder of his family or fighting for the freedom of a people long abused.” Ramsey plays the heroine, Macfayden plays a tribal leader and Sands and Szhor play antagonists. Shooting is already underway in L.A. [Variety]
