After a couple of years of development and several recent castings, Prime Video‘s series adaptation of “Tomb Raider” is ready to hit production. And to build up hype for the upcoming show, Prime Video has a new first-look photo of Sophie Turner in the lead role of adventurer Lara Croft. Check it out below.

The new pic should continue the chatter about whether or not Turner is the right person to play Croft. Prime Video describes the new look of the archaeologist as “fierce,” but it’s doubtful the first look will convince those who questioned the casting back when it was first announced in late 2024. Still, no one really knows what writer Phoebe Waller–Bridge has in mind for this iteration of the character; she promised “something dangerous” in Summer 2023, but that could mean just about anything.
Other cast members besides Turner for “Tomb Raider” include Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, and Bill Paterson. Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, and Juliette Motamed also star. Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein round out the main cast.
Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, and co-showrunner on “Tomb Raider” alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken directs the series. All three also serve as executive producers, too. Other executive producers include Jenny Robins via Wells Street Films; Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dallas Dickinson via Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel and Legendary Television; Matt McInnis; and Jan R. Martin as producer.
So, when will “Tomb Raider” hit Prime Video? Not this year, but anticipate a premiere in 2027-2028. In the meantime, take a look at Turner as Lara Croft below.
