Mike Flanagan spent years at Netflix helping establish their horror library with a string of various shows, and is now pivoting to another streaming service to help with their series division. He’s landed an overall TV deal with Amazon MGM Studios, where he’s currently prepping/developing a series remake of Stephen King‘s landmark horror novel “Carrie,” which had been previously adapted to a feature film by Brian De Palma in 1976.
Details from the announcement (via The Hollywood Reporter) aren’t exactly telling us what other TV projects are going to be made at his Red Room Pictures beyond “Carrie,” given Flanagan’s passion for King material and the macabre, in general, we’ll likely hear about these other projects in the near future. Since Amazon has both Prime Video and MGM+ as part of the TV division, there are plenty of options for them to pursue.

If you’re not familiar with “Carrie,” it’s about an ostracized high school girl who is pushed to the brink by a ruthless religious mother and a group of bullying classmates, which leads to Carrie unleashing deadly telekinetic powers in a fit of rage when a childish prank goes too far at prom.
Production on his next studio effort, a new installment in the “The Exorcist franchise at Universal/Blumhouse, starring Scarlett Johansson, is expected to start this week. That’s not it, as Flanagan recently signed on to write and direct a new iteration of the Lovecraftian King story “The Mist” for Warner Bros., after making “The Shining” legacy sequel, “Doctor Sleep.”
His previous TV projects at Netflix included “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “Midnight Mass,” “The Midnight Club,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
We cannot wait to see what Flanagan cooks up at Amazon.
