Donald Glover Talks 'Han Solo' Divorce & More 'Atlanta'

The best TV show of 2016? Hands down for us it was Donald Glover’s “Atlanta” on FX, a series we described as “the most audacious, confident, visually striking and instantly quotable show of the past year.” So, it was rather heartbreaking to hear when Glover, who also has a music career, said he was busy and there probably wouldn’t be a second season of “Atlanta” any time soon. However, that’s changed. At the recent TCA conference, Glover, in attendance said more “Atlanta” is coming and he boldly predicted the new version will eclipse the first season.

In a recent THR profile of Glover, the trade says the second season of “Atlanta” is already written and production will begin in September. The actor admits FX didn’t know what to make of his show and pitch at first. “It was hard to get FX to understand what I was doing [with Atlanta] at first. I had to, for lack of a better term, lie about it in a lot of ways because I was like, ‘If you hear this, it’s not going to sound good. It’s going to sound crazy,'” he said.

“Ron is such a legend, and he knows exactly what the vision for what he is doing is … [but Phil and Chris] hired us, so you sort of feel like, ‘I know I’m not your first choice …’ And you worry about that,” he admitted. “To be honest, I don’t know exactly what happened. I feel like I was the baby in the divorce, or the youngest child. The oldest child is like, ‘We know what’s happening, but we are keeping you out of it.’ And I’m just like, [Glover’s voice rises several octaves] ‘Was that scene good? How did you feel?’ ”

And in case you were wondering, Glover is a “Star Wars” aficionado. “There are people on these movies who didn’t grow up with ‘Star Wars,’ he said. “Me? I know everything about [the universe]. I didn’t have to do any research.”

More “Atlanta” next year, a “Han Solo” movie in May, 2018 and at some point, a “Deadpool” animated series. What did you do today?
