Emily Blunt Talks Turning Down 'Captain America' Love Interest Role

Doing press for…. nothing it seems, Splashpage still seemed to get a hold of Emily Blunt to ask her why in god’s name she would turn down the love interest role in “The First Avenger: Captain America” (and Hayley Atwell picked it up).

Many speculated she she turned the role after her fiancé John Krasinski didn’t get the gig. We just think it’s interesting that it’s come to this: an era when actors have to explain themselves for why they turned down roles. Either way she said her reasons had to do with commitment-phobia (Marvel likes to lock their actors into longterm deals in case they need them for sequels, spin-offs or random Easter egg appearances) and the fact that she wanted to do something else like a comedy next.

“There’s definitely a high commitment level and I’m not someone who likes to plan too much ahead,” she said. “That would also be an issue for me as well. I’m a big supporter of [director] Joe Johnston and I think that ‘Captain America’ is going to be really fun and I gather that the story is really interesting. It just wasn’t what I wanted to do next, to be honest.” Wait, a big supporter of Joe Johnston? Now we know she’s lying. 😉
