Fresh off its TIFF 2025 premiere, the official full-length trailer has dropped for David Michôd’s bruising boxing drama “Christy,” arriving in theaters November 7. The filmmaker behind “The King” turns to the real-life story of pioneering fighter Christy Martin, with Sydney Sweeney delivering what’s already being called a career-defining performance.
The film stars Sydney Sweeney (“Anyone But You,” “Eden,” “Immaculate”), Ben Foster (“Motor City”), Merritt Wever (“Severance,” “Marriage Story”), Katy O’Brian (“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” “Love Lies Bleeding”), and Chad Coleman (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”).
Based on true events, “Christy” follows Christy Martin (Sweeney) from her small-town West Virginia roots into the unforgiving world of professional boxing under the guidance of trainer-turned-husband Jim (Foster). As her reputation grows, the fiercest battles emerge outside the ring—against family, identity, and a relationship that spirals toward life-or-death stakes.
TIFF audiences were quick to single out Sweeney’s transformation, with The Playlist writing, “Christy is Sydney Sweeney’s Raging Bull… his star puts up a hell of a fight to show the complexity of Christy’s story, including the painful topics of domestic violence and homophobia.”
“Christy” opens in theaters on November 7. Watch the trailer below.
