It’s hard to believe a decade his passed since Darren Aronofsky released his grand, sweeping epic “The Fountain.” The director’s soaring vision about love, death, and existence remains one of his most powerfully realized pictures, combining ambitious visuals, a terrific soundtrack, and moving performances. It’s a film that truly deserves to be seen on the big screen, and fans will get a chance to have that experience once again, and much more.
MondoCon will celebrate the 10th anniversary of “The Fountain” with a special screening event, followed by an in-depth conversation about the film, its music, its the impact with composer Clint Mansell, conducted by Brian Satterwhite. And that’s not all. Mondo will also be releasing the score on vinyl for the first time ever.
The score is one of Mansell’s crowning achievements, and sees the composer working with Kronos Quartet and post-rock band Mogwai to create the otherworldly sounds that power Aronofsky’s incredible story in “The Fountain.” It’s music that manages to be both intimate and profoundly, universally moving all at once.
“…more than any of my works, the demand for ‘The Fountain’ on vinyl has been building incessantly over the years. We’ve all waited a long time for this and, to be honest, I never really thought it would happen,” Mansell said in a statement. “But, once again, Mondo delivers. I was blown away by their release of ‘Black Swan’ last year, so I’m excited that we get to do it all again with ‘The Fountain.’ Aronofsky! Mansell! Mondo! Death Waltz! ‘The Fountain’! Nuff Said!”
Featuring new liner notes, an interview with Clint Mansell, and artwork by Nicole Gustafsson, “The Fountain” will be pressed on 180 gram vinyl, and available to MondoCon attendees in a limited special edition of 500 copies. The soundtrack will also be available in a general release edition starting in November.
