There are three things you need to know about the upcoming Marvel film, “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.” For one, after fighting many low-level criminals in the franchise thus far, ‘Quantumania’ is set mainly in the Quantum Realm and is easily the biggest of all the ‘Ant-Man’ films by some measure. That’s because it features Jonathan Majors as the time-traveling supervillain Kang The Conqueror. But the second thing you need to know. If you’re expecting the same version of Kang featured in “Loki,” known then as He Who Remains, guess again, this character is totally different.
In a recent Empire interview, director Peyton Reed called Kang “an all-timer antagonist,” the miniature hero facing off against his biggest foe to date. “That’s interesting to me: to take the tiniest, and in some people’s minds weakest, Avenger, and put them up against this absolute force of nature.”
And thirdly? ‘Quantumania’ is so big it will directly impact the next biggest Marvel blockbuster, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
“Jeff Loveness, who wrote this [‘Ant-Man’] movie, is writing The Kang Dynasty as well,” Reed noted. “So there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang The Conqueror makes. There are big things in store.”
The ‘Quantumania’ cast includes Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, plus Bill Murray, David Dastmalchian, Randall Park, William Jackson Harper, and Katy O’Brian, who may or may not be reprising her same role from “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Here’s the official synopsis for this third Ant-Man film which officially launches Marvel’s Phase 5.
In the film, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Jonathan Majors joins the adventure as Kang. Director Peyton Reed returns to direct the film; Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard produce.
