'Transformers: The Last Knight': Anthony Hopkins Introduces Robot Dementia & Hot Rod

Blockbuster helmer Michael Bay once said he was giving up on the “Transformers” series. Five films later and well, Bay is still directing “Transformers” films. Titled “Transformers: The Last Knight,” the newest is apparently trying to set up some secret legend that reveals the transformers have been around for decades on Earth… or something.

But Bay swears up and down ‘The Last Knight’ is his last film in the franchise. We’ll see. But one thing is for sure at the moment, “Transformers” is charging ahead without him.  A “Transformers: Bumblebee” spin-off film scheduled for June, 8, 2018 (though since there’s no script or director, I’d bet this becomes a 2019 film), and Paramount is developing many more films including the inevitable “Transformers 6” which is set for a June 28, 2019 release (shifts to 2020?).

Mark Wahlberg stars once again in Bay’s latest, but it might be his last foray in the series too as it looks as if, at least based on the last few trailers that newcomer Isabela Moner could be taking over the series — or at least will be a significant player going forward. Here’s the official synopsis:

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Directed by Michael Bay (again), the fifth ‘Transformers’ film stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, Isabela Moner and Santiago Cabrera “Transformers: The Last Knight” opens in theaters June 21.
