After scoring 13 Emmy nominations and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most urgent dramas, “The Pitt” is back for a second season, and HBO Max has unveiled the first teaser. The Max Original from creator R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells Productions returns in January 2026, though no specific premiere date has been announced.

Set in a Pittsburgh hospital, the series continues its unflinching look at the realities facing America’s healthcare workers. Noah Wyle once again leads as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, joined by Sepideh Moafi (Dr. Al-Hashimi), Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Taylor Dearden (Dr. King), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), Shabana Azeez (Javadi), and Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans). Season two finds Langdon returning from rehab, Dana harder-edged after her harrowing arc last year, and the younger residents stepping further into the spotlight.
“The question I ask myself is, will the show have enough dramatic engine? Will the characters be just as gripping as what we gave audiences last year? I hope so,” Wyle told Vanity Fair. Wells added, “ER was of its moment, and now this is of ours. This is a microcosm of how national policy hits home.” Dearden, whose neurodivergent character struck a chord in season one, said she hopes Mel King finds “more support from her peers” as the series continues.
Executive producers include Gemmill, Wyle, Emmy winner John Wells (“ER,” “The West Wing,” “Shameless”), Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan. With its awards heat and a cast praised for authenticity, “The Pitt” returns this winter on HBO Max. Watch the teaser below.
