Real ones know: the legendary eight-episode documentary series “The Beatles Anthology” remains the definitive portrait of the beloved Fab Four. Originally released in 1995, the project stitched together an unprecedented oral history told entirely by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—a sprawling, deeply personal chronicle of the band’s rise, explosion, and unraveling. Now, thirty years later, the series is returning in a newly restored and expanded form, and Disney+ has dropped an all-new trailer to mark the occasion.
Disney+ has quietly—and now unmistakably—become the home for all things Apple Corps and Beatles. Over the last several years, the streamer has premiered multiple major releases connected to the band, including Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back,” the restored “Let It Be,” and archival entries like “Beatles ’64.” “The Beatles Anthology” is the latest and most ambitious addition to what has become the platform’s de facto Beatles Collection.
This new version of the Anthology runs over three nights, starting November 26, and features a major upgrade. Working with the restoration team at Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post, Apple Corps has overhauled the footage and sound to appeal to modern audiences while expanding the series from eight episodes to nine. The brand-new Episode Nine includes previously unreleased material of Paul, George, and Ringo collaborating during the original 1990s Anthology project—a revelation for fans who’ve spent decades hoping for exactly this kind of archival rediscovery.
As before, the series chronicles the Beatles’ entire arc: the rough-and-tumble early years, the volcanic eruption of Beatlemania, the dizzying pace of innovation in the studio, and the fragile internal dynamics that ultimately led to the group’s disintegration. Even now, few music documentaries match its intimacy, candor, or breadth.
Episode Nine is directed by Oliver Murray, while Episodes One through Eight are directed by Geoff Wonfor, Bob Smeaton, and Matt Longfellow. Producers include Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Martin R. Smith.
“The Beatles Anthology” streams November 26, 27, and 28 on Disney+. Watch the new trailer below.
