‘Pressure’ Trailer: Andrew Scott & Brendan Fraser Count Down To D-Day In Anthony Maras’ Historical Thriller

Based on David Haig’s acclaimed stage play, the Working Title and StudioCanal drama opens May 29 in the U.S., with a September 9 release set for the UK and Ireland.

Most D-Day movies begin with impact, but the new Focus Features WWII drama, “Pressure,” goes the other way, backing into one of the most consequential military operations in modern history through dread, and the kind of impossible call that can turn on a weather report. The historical drama stars Andrew Scott as chief meteorological officer James Stagg and Brendan Fraser as General Dwight D. Eisenhower, with the story centered on the tense 72 hours leading up to the invasion.

Directed by Anthony Maras—the “Hotel Mumbai” filmmaker—and written by Maras with Olivier Award-winner David Haig, the film adapts Haig’s stage play and shifts the focus away from battlefield spectacle toward the nerve-racking arguments, forecasts, and political pressure that shaped Operation Overlord before a single boot hit the beach. Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, and Damian Lewis round out the ensemble.

Rather than replaying familiar war-movie iconography, “Pressure” narrows the frame to command-room nerves and competing judgment calls, with Stagg pushed to convince Allied leadership that the weather could decide everything. That setup alone gives the film a strong angle: a D-Day drama built not around combat but around the men trying to determine whether the invasion is even survivable.
