‘MobLand’: Tom Hardy Reportedly Was Not Fired As Discussions Continue For His Season 3 Return

Hardy’s future on the Paramount+ crime series remains unresolved, despite earlier claims that he had been fired.

Despite claims to the contrary, reports of Tom Hardy’s exit from “MobLand” may have been premature. After a round of stories claimed the “Venom” actor had been fired from the Paramount+ crime series after Season 2, Variety now reports that Hardy was not officially dismissed and that talks are still underway about bringing him back for a third season.

“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively,” a source close to production told the trade.

That does not mean everything behind the scenes has been smooth. The report says tensions between Hardy, co-creator Jez Butterworth (“Edge Of Tomorrow”), and producer David Glasser were real, with the fallout tied to a mix of creative friction, tardiness claims, and Hardy’s reported script notes. Still, the new wrinkle is significant because the situation appears unresolved, rather than final.

The show, co-created by Ronan Bennett (“Top Boy”) and Butterworth, stars Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a fixer orbiting the Harrigan crime family, led by characters played by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. Guy Ritchie executive produces and has directed multiple episodes, and according to the report, Ritchie remains a key Hardy ally.

One production source told Variety, “I’m sure Guy is probably pushing David Glasser to make it work. Guy likes working with Tom.”

Part of the dispute reportedly came from both sides of the production process. Hardy was said to have wanted more time with scripts before shooting, while Butterworth was allegedly delivering pages late, sometimes just a week before cameras rolled. That became more complicated when Butterworth was not on set to address questions or changes, leaving other directors with less authority to adjust material in the moment.

The friction allegations also land in the context of Hardy’s long-standing reputation for intensity on set. In the oral history book “Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild And True Story Of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,” multiple collaborators described a chaotic production environment and tensions surrounding Hardy during the making of George Miller’s 2015 film, including famously strained dynamics with co-star Charlize Theron. Hardy later acknowledged parts of that conflict publicly, admitting he “owed” Miller and Theron an apology for some of his behavior during the shoot.

Season 2 of “MobLand” has already wrapped, but the report says reshoots may still require Hardy. Recasting the role is described as unlikely, though the series could theoretically move on without Harry Da Souza if talks collapse. For now, the larger point is that the actor’s future on “MobLand” remains fluid rather than settled.

“MobLand” was renewed for Season 2 last year after becoming a major Paramount+ performer, and Hardy’s presence has been central to its identity since the beginning. Whether he stays or exits, Season 3 now has an offscreen drama nearly as tangled as the Harrigan family’s onscreen business.
