One would think after all the superhero supporting cast and cameos—heroes like Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Metamorpho— that a film like James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” blockbuster wouldn’t really need to have more surprises in store, but apparently one more is coming. Late yesterday, Alan Tudyk (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) was reported to be joining the cast in a mystery role.
Tudyk is already in the DC Studios universe, too, voicing the nuclear plant meltdown-born villain Doctor Phosphorus in Gunn’s upcoming Max animated series, “Creature Commando,” which will arrive this December to kick off this new DC universe properly, but apparently, he’ll be doing double duty. Additionally, Tudyk also voices Clayface in the Max animated series “Harley Quinn”; clearly, animators love him.

Who could he be possibly playing that it’s under wraps? It’s very unclear, but it could just be something ordinary.
“Superman” already stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., plus María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Terence Rosemore, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Christopher McDonald.
Not much is known about the direct plot of “Superman,” other than that in Gunn’s universe, unlike Marvel, which introduced heroes one at a time on Earth, heroes have existed for a long time and are part of the natural fabric of the world.
The superhero film follows the Man of Steel as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Gunn has suggested that his film will lean into old-school ideas of Superman as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Produced by Gunn and DC Studios co-executive Peter Safran, “Superman” hits theaters on July 11 via Warner Bros. Maybe we’ll get a trailer at the Superbowl or some major event like that. [Deadline]
