LA Film Festival Exclusive: Trailer For Neorealist Immigrant Drama 'Lupe Under The Sun'

Thanks to the current election, and a candidate tossing out rather ugly rhetoric about immigrants who have made their way to the United States for a better life, stories from those quarters are more vital than ever. And at the upcoming LA Film Festival, “Lupe Under The Sun” presents a story from that much-needed perspective, and today we have the exclusive trailer.

Directed by Rodrigo Reyes, and inspired by his grandfather, the film blends fiction and documentary in following migrant laborer Lupe, who harvests peaches in California’s Central Valley, and when he’s not at work, finds comfort in a love affair with fellow immigrant Gloria. However, with regret and missed opportunity weighing on his mind, Lupe wants to go back to his home in Mexico before he dies. It’s an intimate story, one given an extra level of authenticity as Reyes uses non-professional actors and a neo-realist style for his film.

“Lupe Under The Sun” will have its World Premiere screening at LA Film Festival on Sunday, June 5th.
