‘The Last Stop In Yuma County’: Jim Cummings Stars In New Western Crime Thriller Arriving In May

While we await the next feature from triple threat, actor/writer/director Jim Cummings—known for his excellent indies, “Thunder Road,” The Wolf of Snow Hollow” and “The Beta Test”—the actor is still demonstrating he can be a viable lead outside of his own movies too. His latest film is the Western crime feature “The Last Stop In Yuma County,” which features a sprawling indie cast (he’s also an exec-producer on the film) and has been described as “an old-fashioned shoot ’em up.”

The feature-length debut of writer/director Francis Galluppi, known for several shorts and Mt. Joy music videos, ‘Yuma County’ is a thriller about a traveling knife salesman (Cummings) stranded and forced to wait at a rural rest stop. Suddenly, he finds himself in the middle of a violent hostage situation upon the arrival of two bank robbers who are on the run after a recent heist.

“The Last Stop In Yuma County” features an ensemble cast of Cummings (“The Wolf of Snow Hollow”), Jocelin Donahue (“The House of the Devil”), Sierra McCormick (“The Vast of Night”), Nicholas Logan (“I Care a Lot”), Michael Abbott Jr. (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Connor Paolo (“A Creature Was Stirring”), Alexandra Essoe (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”), Robin Bartlett (“The Fabelmans“), Jon Proudstar (“Reservation Dogs”), Sam Huntington (“Being Human”), Ryan Masson (“Good Girls”), and Barbara Crampton (“Suitable Flesh,” “Re-Animator”), with appearances by Gene Jones (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Faizon Love (“Elf”) and Richard Brake (“Barbarian”).

Here’s the official synopsis:

While awaiting the next fuel truck at a middle-of-nowhere Arizona rest stop, a traveling young knife salesman is thrust into a high-stakes hostage situation by the arrival of two similarly stranded bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty—or cold, hard steel—to protect their bloodstained, ill-begotten fortune. “The Last Stop in Yuma County” premiered at the Fantastic Fest in September 2023 before heading to Sitges, where it won the best film prize in the Orbita section.

The film also currently sits pretty with a plum 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Well-Go USA is releasing the movie in theaters and on digital, May 10, 2024. Watch the first trailer below.
