'Thor' Gets Wet & Beefy In New Photo, Film Has Subtitle 'The Mighty Avenger'?

Mmmm… wet and beefcakey.

Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” might not hit theaters until May 6, 2011, but with ComicCon 2010 kicking off tomorrow, promotion for the film is ramping up into high gear. The third of four images of the Marvel film starring Chris Hemsworth has surfaced and while vaguely looking like something that might be featured in Playgirl, it’s still the best looking photo so far mostly because it doesn’t have any of the cheap, plastic-looking costumes that have been irking fans so far.

The photo comes from USA Today, and shows the Norse god Thor putting some hammer time on a rock and presumably about to change into costume when he strikes the granite (though it appears his Marvel comics alter ego, the frail Donald Blake isn’t being utilized in this version of “Thor” which is probably not a bad thing cause it raises the suspension of disbelief which is high enough as it is).

Hemsworth, who’s biggest role so far is that of Captain Kirk’s father in J.J. Abrams 2009 “Star Trek” reboot, says he’s aware of the online animus fans can have to poor comic book adaptations.

“It’s a bit scary, the power and devotion they have,” says Chris Hemsworth, he said. “A couple of months ago I was feeling secure and went online to see what people were saying. Some people loved we were doing a movie; some people already hated it. I’ll never read comments again.”

Pretty amusing. Meanwhile, is “Thor” being subtitled “The Mighty Avenger”? This ComicCon poster seems to suggest yes, but we should assume that’s not official for now and maybe just coloring to sell the picture. Update, here’s another new/old pic.
