With his Khal Drogo days well behind him and “Aquaman 2” not coming until 2022, it’s time for Jason Momoa to start building out his resume. The actor arguably already has, but Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune” still doesn’t come out in theaters and HBO Max until October 1, and “See,” his AppleTV+ show, is on hiatus due to COVID despite being renewed for a second season.
Momoa is a household name now, thanks to the DCEU, so it shouldn’t take much time for the actor to further boost his action star credentials. His next film, “Sweet Girl,” coming to Netflix this August, looks to continue what 2018’s “Braven” started and give Momoa undeniable star power. Here’s the official synopsis:

Devoted family man Ray Cooper, vows justice against the pharmaceutical company responsible for pulling a potentially life-saving drug from the market just before his wife (Adria Arjona) dies from cancer. But when his search for the truth leads to a deadly encounter that puts Ray and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in harm’s way, Ray’s mission turns into a quest for vengeance in order to protect the only family he has left. SWEET GIRL is directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza and stars Justin Bartha, Amy Brenneman, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Raza Jaffrey, Lex Scott Davis and Michael Raymond-James.

So, a family-oriented vigilante film in the vein of “Death Wish“–it shouldn’t be too hard for Momoa to tackle that.

Alongside Momoa, “Sweet Girl” also stars Isabela Merced (‘Dora And The Lost City Of Gold‘), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (‘6 Underground‘), Raza Jaffrey (‘The Rhythm Section‘), and Marisa Tomei (‘The King Of Staten Island‘). Adria Arjona (‘6 Underground‘), Justin Bartha (‘The Hangover” series), Lex Scott Davis (“Son Of The South“), and Amy Brenneman (“The Leftovers“) round out the main cast.
Momoa’s buddy Brian Andrew Mendoza, who has served as producer on several of the actors’ projects, including this film and “Braven,” directs in his feature film debut. Philip Eisner (‘Event Horizon‘), Gregg Hurwitz (‘Book Of Henry‘), and Will Staples (‘Without Remorse,’ co-written with Taylor Sheridan) provides the script.
