There are few upcoming cinematic projects as ambitious as Sam Mendes‘ “The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event.” And at this rate, Mendes may cast every up-and-coming UK actor in his quartet before production on them ends. Don’t believe that? Well, here are four more castings for the films as shooting gets into full swing.
The latest to join the Beatles biopics are Farhan Akhtar, Lucy Boynton, Morfydd Clark, and Harry Lawtey. “Bhaag Miklha Bhaag” actor Akhtar will play Indian composer Ravi Shankar; “Bohemian Rhapsody” actress Boynton is an early Paul McCartney girlfriend, actress Jane Ashwer; “The Rings Of Power” star Clark is John Lennon’s first wife, Cynthia Lennon; and “Industry” actor Lawtey is original Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe. Don’t expect these four castings to be the last either, as production for all four films will go for well over a year.
The main cast of Mendes’ project is already well-known at this point, so no need to remind you, reader. But some first look images of the four main actors as The Beatles emerged late last month, and, for the most part, the resemblances are uncanny (although Joseph Quinn as George Harrison is the weakest of the lot). Since then, it’s come to light that James Norton and Harry Lloyd have key roles in the films, too: Norton as manager Brian Epstein, and Lloyd as producer George Martin.
Mendes’ films will chart the rise and fall of the iconic band from their start in Liverpool, their global fame, to their 1970 break-up over four movies, each one from a Beatles member’s point of view. What’s more, all four films will hit the big screen in April 2028; a lofty goal for Sony Pictures, the studio that finances and distributes the project, but it’s hard to bet against the massive popularity of The Beatles. This “cinematic event” could be among the most lucrative of the 21st century after its theatrical run.
Stay tuned for more casting on “The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event” as production continues.
