Damon Lindelof has found his lead for his upcoming HBO limited series “The Chain“: actress Jodie Comer.
Variety reports that the actress will star in the upcoming eight-episode show, based on Adrian McKinty‘s 2019 novel of the same name. Comer will play Rachel, “a suburban mom who must consider the unthinkable when her daughter is kidnapped,” according to the logline the outlet supplies. Those familiar with “The Chain” will know the initial kidnapping is just one thread in this story’s sprawling conspiracy, so best to leave it a secret for now.
First announced in January by HBO, “The Chain” is part of Lindelof’s two-year overall deal with the network. He’ll serve as creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series. The pilot’s story is by Lindelof, Carly Wray, and Breannah Gibson, with Lindelof and Wray penning its script. Executive producers on the pilot include Michael Ellenberg and Lindsrey Springer via Media Res, along with Shane Salerno, Gibson, and Joe Iberti. Novelist McKinty is also on board as a co-executive producer. “The China” is an HBO and Media Res co-production.
“The Chain” is one of two upcoming Lindelof series set to hit HBO soon. The other? The DC Studios show “Lanterns,” starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, which premieres later this year. Lindelof was also the showrunner on HBO’s “Watchmen,” a critical darling for the network, winning 11 of its 27 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series.
As for Comer, the actress’ best work is arguably on TV, particularly “Killing Eve,” a show that notched her an Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama, and a BAFTA. Other notable series roles for Comer include “My Mad Fat Diary,” “Thirteen,” and “Doctor Foster.” Film roles for the actress include “The Bikeriders,” “Free Guy,” “The Last Duel,” and “28 Years Later.”
Expect “The Chain” to be ready to debut on HBO sometime in 2027. Stay tuned for further details on the limited series.
