Inspired by Mary Shelley‘s “Frankenstein,” “Dead Lover” follows a woman whose attempts to resurrect her true love after he drowns become increasingly desperate, zany, and deranged.

Here’s an official synopsis for the film, courtesy of Yellow Veil Pictures:

A lonely Gravedigger who stinks of corpses finally meets her dream man, but their whirlwind affair is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea. Grief-stricken, she goes to morbid lengths to resurrect him through madcap scientific experiments, resulting in grave consequences and unlikely love.

“Dead Lover” stars Glowicki and Ben Petrie, who also write the film together. The pair also produce the film with Yona Strauss. Executive producers on the film include Rhianon Jones, Tristan Scott-behrends, Matthew Miller, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Olivia Niuewland.

“Dead Lover” had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last year, with additional screenings at SXSW 2025, International Film Festival Rotterdam, and Gothenburg Film Festival.

After preview screenings at both Nitehawk Cinema locations in Brooklyn next week on February 9, “Dead Lover” hits IFC Center on March 20. Watch a trailer for the dark romance below.
