Nearly two years after he wrapped shooting, David Lowery’s new, self-described “weird, weird movie”, “Mother Mary“, finally hits theaters next month. And A24 isn’t holding back with its marketing for the psychosexual pop opera starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Cole. The studio has a new teaser for the music album today, which hits stores on the same day the film hits theaters.

Along with the new teaser, the album’s single, “Burial,” a song by Hathaway, Jack Antonoff, Charli xcx, George Daniel, and the actress, is also available to stream today. It’s one of several original songs on the album, including one by FKA Twigs, who also stars in Lowery’s film. Charli xcx and FKA Twigs are involved with the same A24 film? That guarantees that “Mother Mary” will have decent legs on its theatrical run.

Here’s an official synopsis for the film, courtesy of A24:
Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.
Along with Hathaway and Coel, “Mother Mary” also stars Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs.
Lowery writes and directs “Mother Mary,” his first film since 2023’s “Peter Pan & Wendy.” Producers on the film include Lowery, Toby Halbrooks, Jeanie Igoe, James M. Johnston, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, and Jonathan Saubach.
“Mother Mary” hits theaters on April 17. Watch the new album teaser below, and also check out Hathaway’s “Burial.”
