Quentin Tarantino’s Next Project Is A “British Farce” West-End Play In The ‘Noises Off’ Tradition—Eyeing A 2027 Debut

Last summer, Quentin Tarantino revealed that his next project wouldn’t be his tenth and final film, but instead a stage play in London’s West End. But QT fans know to take the director’s future plans with a hefty grain of salt, as the number of projects and movie ideas he’s had over the years that remain unmade is myriad, if not countless (The Movie Critic just the latest example).

In this case, however, it turns out Tarantino’s plans for this West End play are very real and moving forward shortly. Daily Mail reports that the auteur eyes a 2027 debut for the production, and the outlet’s sources say it’s an original script that’s a farce-style comedy. “He has written this himself. It is not based on any of his films. It is a farce, in the British, “Noises Off” tradition,” said the anonymous source. For those unfamiliar with “Noises Off,” it’s a play-within-a-play slapstick, about a theater production rife with mishaps, errors, and general behind-the-scenes chaos. Tarantino’s play may not have the same self-reflexive quality of “Noises Off,” but it will share a similar comedic tone.

The source also revealed that “At the moment, [Tarantino] is looking at all different sizes and sorts of theatres while he considers the staging.” Tarantino also reportedly wants to wrangle some big Hollywood names for the production, too. Don’t expect a reunion with Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt, though, as neither QT regular has a theater background. In that sense, it’ll be interesting to see who Tarantino taps for his cast.

With a 2027 stage run for his play, Tarantino has more time away from the big screen to mull over plans for his next movie. Will that one be his last, as he’s long declared it will be? We’ll see. As noted earlier, “The Movie Critic” isn’t happening, and Tarantino only has indirect involvement in David Fincher‘s The Adventure Of Cliff Booth, in theaters and on Netflix this summer. That means Tarantino’s tenth and final movie remains a mystery, and won’t get announced for at least the next two years.
